Turkey's Central Bank bans trading with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies

 



The regulation of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey on the use of cryptocurrencies was published in the Official Gazette. 


According to the regulation, the presence of crypto, distributed notebook technology or using technology similar to digital networks that are created and distributed over virtually, however, fiat money, bank money, electronic money, payment instruments, securities or other capital market instruments that do not qualify as intangible assets, means said.


The regulation emphasized that crypto assets cannot be used directly or indirectly in payments and services for their use cannot be offered.


It was also stated that payment service providers cannot develop business models in such a way that crypto assets will be used directly or indirectly in the delivery of payment services and the issuance of electronic money, nor can they provide any services related to such business models.


According to the regulation, which will enter into force on April 30, 2021, payment and electronic money institutions will not be able to mediate the exchange, storage, transfer or issuance of crypto assets to platforms or the transfer of funds from these platforms.
